Infantino Activity Triangle

infantino activity triangle review - simple baby toys

The Infantino Activity Triangle is tons of noiseless fun!  Small colorful tabs are easy to spin; one even has a sweet puppy face. With micro sized balls inside plastic tubes making soft rattling noises, beads to click and a few wheels to spin there is something on every side to hold interest.

My son adored this toy from 5 – 9 months and it still is making an occasional appearance in his toy rotation at 10.5 months with success.  Definitely 5 or more minutes of fun!

Three Toys For A 9 Month Old Under $10

(c) simple baby blog vtech farm rattle

Truth be told, my husband and I didn’t buy our son any gifts for his first Christmas. Nope, not one. We decided to let him bask in the all of the toys he received from friends and family. It was more than enough and next year we will work on a tradition of giving gifts, as he understands the meaning more.

After the wrapping paper settled, a few gifts stood out as favorites to our 9 month old. My criteria for favorites: Toys that hold at least 5 minutes of attention and are interesting multiple times per day. It doesn’t hurt that these three favorites are under $10 each.

Vtech Farm Rattle

(featured above) This sweet toy is perfect for tiny hands.  My son quickly was drawn to the three flaps, moving them up and down repeatedly while intrigued with the flashing musical note.  There are two levels of volume (thank goodness) and I did not find the tune bothersome at all.  So far it’s been an amazing toy for car rides!

Munchkin Bath Toys

I adore toys that are multi-purpose.  Not only does my son love these little animals during bath time, but I’ve been holidng one near the changing table to keep his hands busy.  At 9 months, he loves to mouth everything and there is something about the shapes of these little guys that keep him interested.

Fisher Price Caterpillar

There is something about flaps the click and clack, that mesmerize little ones.  This lightweight toy has some other baby favorite features including knotted strings, beads, a mirror and squeaker.  Our son is enamored and I enjoy sitting with him counting 1, 2, 3 for a bit of learning time as well.

Do you have any favorites for 9 month olds?  Comment below, I’d love to know!

SnoofyBee Review

(c)simple baby blog - snoofybee review

In full disclosure, I was sent a SnoofyBee in exchange for a review.  My opinion and comments below are honest and my own

I was so excited to receive the SnoofyBee changing pad and even more excited to test it out during our holiday travels.  In short, it did not disappoint!  I have included some on my favorite features below and if you purchase a SnoofyBee, use code SIMPLEBABY for a 10% discount!

So, how does it work and why is it so darn special?  It operates like a regular changing pad;  lays flat with coverage for the head and tush but it has ‘wings’ that when fastened together with velcro, create a cone like shape (see photo below). The cone, fits around baby’s upper body keeping wandering hands contained.   Sounds great right?  See the highlights below.

Compact + Lightweight

Let’s face it, the diaper bag gets heavy with all the must haves items, so I was thrilled to find how lightweight the SnoofyBee was.  It fit easily into the bag and added no extra weight.  There was even padding for the head – such a great feature!

Easy Closure

While we were at a restaurant, I happily packed up one diaper and the travel wipes case inside the SnoofyBee.  I used the Velcro closure to keep it all inside and carried it on my wrist.  Being able to keep the diaper bag behind made for easy baby carrying!

Handle + Buckle

Speaking of easy, I love that the strap can be buckled to the side of the diaper bag or stroller.  Let’s be honest, as neatly as you pack on the way out the door, everything comes back in a jumble.  So the buckle being able to clip onto anything at all:  priceless.

Toy Rings

The SnoofyBee comes with 2 sturdy plastic rings which are exciting enough for little ones, but to be safe I added a few teethers.   This activity kept little wandering hands entertained while I worked on the diaper.  I will definitely be sure to change up the toys from time to time as a nice surprise, which will buy me more change time.

Easy to Clean

This is probably my number one priority when purchasing any baby related products:  ease and ability to clean.  I wiped the fabric quickly in between changes with a baby wipe and more thoroughly when I was home.  All in all, it is super simple to keep clean!

(c)simple baby blog - snoofybee review

I highly recommend the SnoofyBee. Whether traveling overnight or simply running errands, it will become an essential. It is also a wonderful gift for a new parent or even a seasoned one.  After all, anything that makes diaper changes faster and easier, is a must have item!

Five Things That Will Happen After Having A Baby

5 things that happen after having a baby

The parenting books and blog posts I read prior to having my son, failed to mention these five new parent happenings.  Therefore, I am passing on my discoveries and yes, they are funny now but a few months ago; not so much.  Links in the post are items that we own and found useful.

One outing a day is the new normal

Gone are the days of running around town accomplishing multiple errands. With a new baby comes an extremely modified idea of what can be done in 24 hours. In fact, it is completely normal to be wiped out after a trip to the corner store. After packing a diaper bag, unexpected diaper blowouts, spit up, setting up a stroller or carrier; it’s a full day affair so try not be hard on yourself.

Rearranging furniture becomes a hobby

Babies change and grow at an exponentially fast rate. With that comes new furniture, new toys and new equipment. Since having C in March we have rearranged our living room, our bedroom and his bedroom countless times to accommodate a bassinet, a pack and play, and exesaucer, a play mat, a walker, and an organization area of toys. In the living room, we finally settled on a strange configuration where all pieces of furniture are along the perimeter of the room which although not visually interesting, it left the largest amount of open space for walking around baby items and playtime.

Teething rules the world

Take a minute and let that title soak in, because you’ll need to remember this when you’re about to pull out your hair.  I know teething is mentioned in countless books and articles, however, it can not be fully understood until it is experienced. It is the longest, ever changing and most disruptive process that will happen to your child. It’ll mess up naps, night sleep, eating, temperament and just about everything along the way. Endless teething products will be purchased, in search of regaining sanity but it’ll all only offer temporary relief. Unfortunately, only time and some experience will make it better.  Keep breathing!

Paper towels will need to be purchased in bulk

This sounds silly, I know. But for some reason we can’t keep enough paper towels in the house. Solids have pushed us over the edge and they are now on our subscription service with Amazon. As our son started solids and is teething he often likes to grab the spoon chew on it and throw it on the floor. Yes, we’ve tried  kitchen towels and cloths etc. but somehow nothing beats a paper towel, and our dog isn’t bad clean up either.

Random children’s songs will become your jam

I never thought I’d watch children’s TV with a newborn. I imagined that I wouldn’t want to cloud his little brain with television nonsense.  Haha, that didn’t last.  For my sanity and not wanting to subject our baby too crappy daytime TV, I opted on cartoons a bit in the morning and again at the end of the day.  PBS, Disney Junior and Sprout TV seem to have a few shows with catchy tunes that even my nine-month-old gets into. Therefore, throughout the day I can count on humming and singing Thomas the Train, The Number of the Day, and of course, the infamous, Hotdog Dance.  If you’re not familiar with these yet, just wait to join the fun! Hot Diggity Dog!

Best Spoons for First Solid Baby Food

baby spoons for first solid foods - simple baby blog
When C first started solids, I went overboard and purchased all types of feeders and baby spoons.  I started to gravitate toward one spoon over and over as he would take food better with it.  When I look at the spoons he still likes the most, they all have one thing in common, they are flexible.  Here are a few of our favorites:

4- 6 months

This Munchkin silicone two pack became a fast favorite.  With a shallow spoon surface and flexible tip for tender gums, it was the clear winner.  I found the soft silicone came in handy while catching dripping food as well. Other hard plastic spoons seemed to bother C during the drip clean up around the mouth.  The only drawback; after a few feedings, the clear silicone was dyed from carrots.  This is probably normal but worth a mention.  Also, if it falls to the floor, don’t let the dog get it!  It’s not dog bite proof.

6-8 months

As C’s solids intake increased and the size of his mouth grew, I purchased the Nuby Soft Touch Spoon.  This silicone spoon also has super flexibility but larger surface for food.  I tend to like the very round shape so when C is restless and turns his head, I can still feed him from the side.  Not even kidding, he gets distracted easily these days.

On a side note, I originally purchased the Num Num Gootensils to be his first spoons (he wasn’t a personal fan, although the concept is fantastic) but once C started to grab the spoon to chew and self feed, these came in handy! With a small amount of food, they are perfect for him to gnaw on while I clean up.  He thinks he’s ‘doing something’ and the spoons are not long enough to gag him, which his regular spoons do.

Bon appetite!

Please always consult with a pediatrician about starting solids and never leave a baby unattended with any feeding utensils.

Bib Storage Solution

Baby Bib Storage Solution - Simple Baby Blog - Where to store baby bibs

Once we started solids, I began to acquire a growing number of rinse-able plastic bibs. Like the bottles, these items needed to find an organized place to live.

I found this pin; but while it answers where to store them, it did not consider how wet bibs would leave a puddle of water below. So the question is, what to do with wet bibs right after washing them?

While this idea is nothing fancy, I thought I’d share my simple solution to the problem. I purchased a Command hook and mounted it right above the sink. I made sure the hook had water resistant tape and voila, a problem was solved. The wet bibs air dry and drip into the counter and sink below.

Where do you store your growing number of bibs? I’d love to know!
